Artist’s Statement
I consider myself to be a painter of fascinating organic shapes, colors, and tones, while creating a space for these elements to interact on the canvas. I enjoy the materiality of paint itself. As I paint, the work takes on a life of its own, which may or may not refer to anything we recognize. In the end, I want the painting to express a feeling, while leading the viewer on an interesting visual journey.
Regarding the expression of light in painting, I see the representation of sunlight, and the feeling of light as different ideas, both originating in the use of color and tone. The paintings in this show tend to show light in a more representational sense of the word, while maintaining the qualities of abstraction that are so important and exciting to me.
