Mono Printing Techniques Using Acrylic Paint

In this video we introduce the concept of printmaking using two simple mono printing techniques incorporating stencils and masks to create pattern, form, and texture. Mono printing combines the processes of printing and painting into one action. It is one of the most direct methods of printing offering immediate results to the student. Students learn the concept of mirror images due to the reverse nature of the application. The process can be extrapolated to include multiple layer printing. This introduces planning in terms of color overlay, transparency or opacity of colors, shape, and form.

What you need:

• Talens Art Creations acrylic paint
• Gel plate or mono printing plate
• Brayer
• Stencil or mask making material such as paper or film
• Scissors or knife (optional)
• Smooth lightweight paper (Ecoline Print Paper, TAC Pastel Paper were used)
• Paper towels
• Water bottle to clean plate
