Ecoline Bubble Project
Materials
Ecoline Liquid Watercolors
Ecoline Liquid Watercolor Brush Pens
Watercolor paper or board (other absorbent mixed media surfaces can work as well)
Liquid Soap
Mixing Cups
Straws
Stir Sticks
Paper Towels
Set Up
Assemble your materials on a table top (wrap table if needed with butcher paper.)
Techniques
Fill tray with a mixture of 2 parts soap, 3 parts water (concentration can vary.)
Add in desired amount of Ecoline Liquid Watercolor. You can make it as saturated as you like.
Stir the resulting solution.
Gently blow into the liquid using a straw to create a crown of bubbles that extends well above the rim of the tray.
Hold the watercolor paper printing surface down, facing toward the bubbles.
Gently lower the paper until it comes into contact with the bubbles. Continue lowering it until you cover the desired amount of the surface of the paper. (Some of the bubbles will pop, making exciting splatters, others will cling to the surface of the paper slowly spreading in wonderful bleeds of color.)
Lift and reveal the wonderfully intricate lace of color and form.
Repeat as many times as desired with a variety of colors.
Enjoy your results!
Tips
Adding more Ecoline Liquid Watercolor to the mixture results in a more saturated color.
Just as with most watercolor techniques, its best to work from light to dark.
Changing blowing speed creates a variety of bubble sizes.
You can blow the bubbles from the tray right on to the surface of the paper instead of lowering it.
Experiment with different color combinations; analogous and complementary colors create exciting contrast.
With a crown of bubbles sitting on the surface of the paper, slowly drip additional Ecoline Liquid Watercolor into the bubbles and watch it drip through creating darker edges of rich color.
