Featured Employee: Kirk Gillespie

When did you join Royal Talens North America (RTNA)?  I joined almost at the beginning in late 2015 before we even had product in the USA.  I think I’m employee no. 3.  Seems like a long time ago already. We’ve come so far so quickly!

What is your role here? Our roles are mostly what I call our main focus since we all go well beyond a simple description.  By title I am a Key Account Manager with a focus on distributor sales, new business channels and large chain retail. When I’m not doing that I assist in creating graphics, product development, and anything else that will help us get the job done.

Where did you work prior to RTNA & what did you do there? I worked for another artist supplier, Savoir-Faire, where I was both a Key Account Manager and Product Manager.

What is your favorite aspect to working here? We have a small team of dedicated artistic minded people who all stick together to get the job done.  This is the most team minded company I’ve worked for and it’s wonderful.

What is your favorite Royal Talens product? Why? At the moment I’m enjoying our Talens Drawing Ink.  It’s the best ink I’ve used by far.  It’s special.  In fact it might be a perfect ink, or at least as close to perfect that I’ve ever experienced.

How do you spend your time away from work? I’m usually with my family.  We like to get out to the beach or into the woods to camp or hike.  Otherwise when we are home we all draw and paint together.

As a child, what did you want to be as an adult? I wanted to be an artist as early as I can remember.  It runs in the family on my Dad’s side.  After working as an illustrator I was able to accomplish that and now get to create art for myself while working with art supplies every day.

If gifted an all-expenses paid trip, describe your dream vacation. I’d go to Ireland with my fiancé Ashlee, starting in Cork and head north from there to drink, eat and paint our way through the countryside and perhaps find as many relatives as we go.
